Marvin Dean Ellis, Sr., 68, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:30 A.M. March 3, 2018, at his residence. Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, achieving the rank of E-4. He was awarded a Bronze Star. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Operator Engineers Local 520, before retiring. Mr. Ellis was a member of East Salem Baptist Church and the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141. He loved horses, his home, and especially spending time with his family. Marvin had a special place in his heart for his dog, Bob, and his horse, Red. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at East Salem Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Randy Hayes and Reverend Lee Redfern officiating. Interment: East Salem Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Marvin was born April 17, 1949, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Charles Earl “Swamp” and Dorothy Ruth (Minor) Ellis. He married Pamela Sue Buttrum on November 18, 2001, at his home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Pam Ellis of Mount Vernon; children: Marvin Ellis, Jr. and wife Christina of Iuka, Illinois, David Ellis and wife Tonya of Mount Vernon, Jamie Harbison of Mount Vernon, Tonya Robinson and husband Jim of Mount Vernon, Keyma Raudenbush and husband Billy of Mount Vernon, and John Trotter and wife Danielle of Mount Vernon; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Ernie Ellis of Florida; and sister, Deloris Ellis of Marion, Illinois.

Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Eugene Ellis; and grandson, Chase Delaney.
