Richard Hulen Garren, age 75 of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.Richard served in the United States Navy. He worked at the Local 520 IUOE as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 50 years. He was a member of the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201 and served as a Wamac Alderman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and making knives. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral Services for Richard Garren will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 12:00 PM at the Greenview Christian Church in Centralia with Pastor Claude Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by the American Legion Post 446 and VFW Post 2055. Friends may call Saturday, November 11, 2017, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, which is assisting the family with arrangements. He was born September 22, 1942, in Barberton, Ohio, son of Cleve Garren and Doris (Gray) Stankwych. He married Barbara Porter on September 9, 1962, and she survives in Centralia.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is also survived by a daughter, Kelly Bitter of Centralia; a grandson: Josh Bodine of Centralia; four great-grandchildren: Jace Bodine, Chance Bodine, Trey Bodine, and Khloe Bodine all of Centralia; a sister: Sandy Hill and husband David of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters-in-law: Marilyn Fields of Centralia and Sondra Biggs and husband Allen of Salem; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jeff Drenckpohl and wife Kathy of Centralia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: James Michael Garren, a sister: Francine Stankwych, and stepfather: Al Stankwych.
