Credit: Al PereiraFounding Kinks guitarist Dave Davies kicks off a short U.S. solo tour tonight in Peekskill, New York, that's scheduled through an April 21 concert in Medina, Minnesota. The 13-date trek will mostly hit venues on the East Coast, including an April 2-3 stand at New York's City Winery.

Davies tells ABC Radio that he'll be playing a "quite rocking" but "quite varied" set of tunes, featuring "some new stuff and some old stuff." The "new stuff" is material from Open Road, the 71-year-old rocker's 2017 collaborative album he recorded with his son Russ.

As for the old stuff, Dave reveals that in addition to Kinks classics, he also plans to perform some of lesser-known gems he wrote for the band, such as "The Man He Weeps Tonight" and "Wicked Annabella."

In addition, he says the shows will feature an acoustic interlude during which he'll plays "The Path Is Long," one of his favorite tunes from Open Road.

"I'm very proud of [Open Road]," Dave tells ABC Radio. "[I]t's gotten really good reviews and it's doing very well."

Davies will be performing as a three-piece outfit, with Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken and David Nolte, Dave's longtime collaborator, on bass and keyboards.

And speaking of The Smithereens, the band will open for Davies at his April 19 concert in Waukegan, Illinois. Sadly, Smithereens frontman Pat DiNizio died in December 2017 after the Waukegan show had been announced, but Dave says that the group will perform with Gin Blossoms singer Robin Wilson filling in on lead vocals.  Drummer Diken will do double duty with both acts.

"I hope Dennis won't be too tired," Dave says with a chuckle. "He'll be playing all night."
