Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds works through childhood "self-confidence" issues on "Whatever It Takes"

ABC/Randy HolmesThe new Imagine Dragons album Evolve spawned two massive hits in "Believer" and "Thunder," and that trend looks to continue with the single "Whatever It Takes." Like "Believer" and "Thunder," "Whatever It Takes" is a triumphant-sounding song about recovering from past pain.

"It's about overcoming my own self-confidence issues that I've had since I was young," frontman Dan Reynolds tells ABC Radio.

To do that Reynolds was willing to do, well, "Whatever It Takes."

"I think that title probably gives away that song more than any song on Evolve," he says. "Since I was young...I was taught that you could do whatever you could dream of, you just had to work harder than everybody else and you had to never give up."

"It's a cliche," Reynolds continues. "But there's a reason it's a cliche."

Imagine Dragons will embark on a North American arena tour this summer starting June 5 in Hartford, Connecticut.
