Okawville, Pinckneyville Heading To State

Okawville’s Luke Hensler blocked Terrell Walker’s game winning shot attempt in double overtime as time expired to lead the Rockets to a 65-64 double overtime win over Peoria Quest Charter Academy to win the Jacksonville Super Sectional.

The Rockets improve to 25-8 on the year and will head to the 1a State Semifinals on Friday when they play Goreville who beat Central A&M 74-61 at the SIU-C Super Sectional. Payton Massey had 19 points, Tanner Dunn 16 and Braden Webb 14 for the Blackcats. The other state semifinal in 1a will see Newman Central Catholic against Annawan.

The 2a Super Sectional at SIU last night saw JC Moll score 24 points to lead state-ranked Pinckneyville to a 60-47 win over Mt Carmel. The Panthers will head to the state semifinals on Friday when they get Winnebago followed by Chicago Orr and Bloomington Central Academy.

The Class 3a Sectionals opened up last night at Centralia. Justin Saddoris had 22 points to lead Marion past Columbia 49-41. The Eagles were led by Jordan Holmes who finished his career with 20 points as he now turns his attention to next season when he will be playing wide receiver for the University of Illinois. Marion will play in Friday’s sectional final against tonight’s winner between the host Orphans and East St Louis at 7pm.

In other 3a action at Eisenhower it was Springfield Lanphier over Champaign Central 71-69 in double overtime. Her McMath scored 20 off the bench for Lanphier in the win. Tonight at Eisenhower, Springfield Southeast takes on Mahomet Seymour.

In 4a action last night, Belleville West destroyed Quincy 66-33 to advance to Friday’s Pekin Sectional final where they will play Moline after their 55-43 win over Rock Island.
