Wildcats Get Win At Freeburg

      The Salem Wildcats opened up 2018 with a Cahokia Conference victory beating Freeburg on the road 55-44.

      Salem had a 9 point lead erased with a 3 pointer in the 3rd quarter but extended that advantage to a dozen at times down the stretch.

      Salem led after one quarter 10-8, extended it to 25-22 at the halftime break and 45-35 after three quarters.

      Damond Crosby led Salem with 17, 11 of those coming in the 2nd half. Dawson Linder added 12 and Kaden Wayer finished with 10.

      Zach Muir finished with 13 points leading Freeburg with Luke Ervie and Carson Smith adding 10 apiece.

      Salem is 7-7 overall and 2-2 in Cahokia play as they host Carlyle in league action on Friday.

      The Salem JV got a 3 pointer from Eric Brubaker with 2.5 seconds left in overtime to give them a 49-48 victory to open the night for the Wildcats. Brubaker finished with 13 points, Brett Whitney added 11 and Isaac Hays finished with 10.

      In other action:

      The Christ Our Rock Silver Stallions earned a 47-43 road win over Webber Township in Midland Trail Conference regular season action. Tristan Britt had a game high 24 points for the Stallions and Jordan Bent added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
