Centralia Holiday Tournament Most Valuable Player, EJ Liddell of Belleville West

Belleville West edged out Champaign Central 62 to 61 to win the Centralia Holiday Tournament Saturday night. The lead in the game changed 11 times before Belleville West nabbed the victory. Belleville West's EJ Liddell scored the game-high 22 points and had 11 rebounds. He was also named tournament most valuable player. Among those in attendance at the championship game was University of Illinois head coach Brad Underwood.

Centralia's run in the tournament ended with a 55 to 50 loss to Evanston in the semi-finals of the fifth-place game and Salem lost to Lausanne, Tennessee in the semi-finals of the 13th place game 62 to 54. Mt. Vernon's run in the tournament ended with a 42 to 36 loss to Cahokia in the semi-finals.

Evanston jumped ahead of Centralia 17 to 9 in the first quarter and led 32-24 at half-time. Centralia outscored Evanston in the 3rd and 4th quarters and briefly took the lead 44 to 43 with 3:13 left in the game when guard Bryan Meskil hit a two-pointer. A few seconds later Evanston's Jaheim Holden went the length of the floor to score and put the Wildkits back in the lead for good. Javon Williams, Junior had 21 points and Jordan Maines 19 to lead the Orphans.

Salem fell behind Lausanne early and trailed 32 to 17 at half-time. The Cat's did outscore Lausanne 17 to 6 in the third quarter to tighten the score 38 to 34 before being outscored 24-20 in the final quarter to drop the game by eight points. Salem was led by Cord Brown with 18 points. Dawson Linder and Kaden Wayer had 11 apiece.

The third-place trophy was won by Chicago Marist who beat Alton 49 to 45. The consolation championship went to Cahokia who topped O'Fallon 61 to 45. The 13th Place game between Lausanne and Germantown Tennessee was canceled.

Others making the All-Tournament Team were Tim Finke of Champaign Central, Morgan Taylor of Chicago Marist, Malachi Smith of Belleville West and Kevin Caldwell of Alton. Second All-Tournament team members were Malik SMith of Alton, Leon Perry of Confluence Prep Academy, Lance Jones of Evanston, Kimahri Wilson of Mundelein Carmel and Jalen Hodge of O'Fallon.
