Wildcats Host Mater Dei To Start Busy Weekend

The Salem Wildcats start a very busy weekend of baseball today when they are at home with Mater Dei for a 4:30 start. The Cats are coming off a 15-inning loss to Olney earlier in the week. After today, Salem will continue Apollo play with a double header in Mattoon tomorrow before traveling to St Louis on Sunday to take on Freeburg at Busch Stadium.

Also today, the South Central Cougars have dropped their last 2 games in final inning at-bats, they will look to turn their luck around today when they host Flora to Lions Field in Kinmundy. Christ Our Rock will play at home against Metro East Lutheran, North Clay is at Centralia, Vandalia hosts Hillsboro, Waltonville at McLeansboro, Woodlawn hosts Goreville.

Last night:

  • The Odin Eagles improved to 9-3 on the prep baseball season and 4-1 in the Midland Trail with a 13-1 win over Wayne City. Skylar Webb was the winning pitcher going 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run. At the plate, Bryson Smith had a homer, triple and drove in 4 runs. Odin will take on Centralia’s JV today in Centralia.

  • Mt Vernon improved to 13-6 overall and 6-0 in the South 7 with their road win at Althoff 9-0. Walker Brockhouse was the winning pitcher while Billy Beckham went 3-4 with a double and RBI, Quinton Kujawa singled and doubled in 2 runs and Parker Wielt also singled, doubled and drove in two runs.

  • Ryan Brink had 2 hits including a double and drove in 3 runs as Nashville beat Pinckneyville 7-4. Trevor Meier, Andrew Kash and Austin Anderson added a hit and RBI as Nashville improved to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in River to River Conference, Mississippi Division play.

  • Four pitchers combined on a six hitter for Vandalia in their 14-2 rout of Father McGivney. Blake Morrison singled and doubled with 3 RBI while Richie Well also had 2 hits with a double and drove in a run as the Vandals improved to 12-5.

  • Jack Streker allowed 2 hits and struck out 10 in Breese Central’s 10-0 win over Red Bud. The Cougars are 17-3 as leadoff man Carter Truong had 3 hits and 3 RBI.

  • Columbia defeated Carlyle 7-3. Shane Wilhelm was the winning pitcher and added 3 hits along with Mitch Daniels and Brennen Van Breusegen. Dru Johnson homered for the Indians and Noah Crocker added an RBI triple.

  • In juco action, KC’s Nick Bates singled in the go ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as KC downed Lincoln Trail College 3-2 in GRAC p lay. It was Bates 2nd RBI of the game. Bryce Beckmann homered for KC’s other run and Nick Brunson and Brayden Sisson had 2 hits each. Blake Cutts was the winning pitcher.
