  • The Salem Youth Football Wildcats improved to 2-0 on Saturday with road wins at Olney. The varsity earned a 34-32 victory. Caden Bee scored 4 touchdowns including a 70 yard run, and a pair of 80 yard kick returns. Brayden Smith also scored and added a conversion.

  • The Salem 10u Wildcats travel baseball team opened up their Effingham Fall League with a split on Sunday. Salem opened with a 7-5 loss to Casey. Cameron Carmichael scored a run along with Alijah Carroll, Aaden Rostance, Jarrett Rushing and Kyler Sapp. Brody Collier had Salem’s only hit as the Wildcats were gifted 12 walks by Casey pitchers in the game. For Salem, Eli LoGrasso took the loss allowing 7 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 4. Adrian Miller came in to get one out in the 4th inning.

  • Pairings have been announced for the Charleston Red-Gold boys soccer tournament. Centralia will be in the Gold Pool and will start Wednesday against Charleston. A JV match between the 2 schools will follow at 5:30. On Friday, Centralia takes on Mattoon and then Saturday, Centralia takes on TTown at noon.

  • South Central remained undefeated knocking off powerhouse North Clay on the road 9-6. The Falcons scored a pair of runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 4-0 lead. North Clay scored twice in their 5th and the score was 5-2 heading into the final inning with both teams plating 4 runs in their final at bat. Ethan Watwood had a day going 1-3 with 4 RBI and a run scored with a home run, Kason Sullens also homered. Chase Thompson was 3-4 with 2 RBI. Aidan Dodson, Andrew Lotz, Jacob Hilmes and Brandt Hiestand each scored runs. Dodson earned the win going 5.2 with Watwood getting the save.
