• Kaskaskia College is inviting all area high school students to attend the KC Basketball game on Wednesday, February 1 as the Blue Devils and Blue Angels take on Olney Central College. All high school students with valid high school identification will be admitted to the game free of charge.

    The Blue Angels game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the Blue Devils start time is slated for 7:30 p.m. Door prizes will be handed out and Shooting Contests will be held.

    According to KC Athletic Director Coach Kim Rahar, “We are pleased to welcome area high school students to the games on February 1. This is a great opportunity for them to see some terrific basketball, watch our athletes play at the collegiate level and learn what KC has to offer.”

  • The Edwardsville Tigers reclaimed the Salem Invitational Tournament with a 50-46 win over defending champion Centralia on Saturday night. Tournament MVP Mark Smith finished with 27 points. The win makes it 5 titles in 6 years for Mike Waldo’s Tigers and their 8th straight championship game appearance. Centralia put 3 in double figures led by Dawson Berry with 14, Jamie Long added 12 and Javon Williams Jr finished with 11. After the game Smith spoke with WJBD/WSIQ and said it was big to play well without star-center AJ Epenesa, who was playing football in Hawaii during the tournament this past week.

  • The SIJHSAA state girls’ basketball tournaments opened up this weekend. In Class L at Rend Lake College, the Centralia Tigerettes won their opener defeating Mascoutah 38-17. They advance to tomorrow’s semifinal at 6pm to take on Massac County after their 42-23 opening round win over Benton. In the other semifinal it will be Herrin and Mt Carmel.
