The Republican candidate for Attorney General and Miss America 2003 was the keynote speaker at the Marion County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner over the weekend.

Erika Howard has set five goals if elected in November. The first is to assure the rule of law is enforced and the constitution upheld. She also wants to address public corruption.

"It is unacceptable to have corruption in our state that goes unchecked. It's not about using the office to settle political scores, it is about holding both parties accountable and saying you're accountable to have a transparent, fair, and accountable government. That is what we require of you."

Howard says business law reform is another priority.

"I also want to make Illinois an environment where businesses want to thrive and create more jobs. So I want to address our worker's compensation system. We cannot continue to have jobs that go to all the other neighboring state's if we are going to get our house in order."

Howard says addressing the opioid epidemic and judicial reform are also key.

"There are opportunities we have to give people who have served their time to be able to get their lives back in order so they can be contributing members of their community and their family."

Howard has gone into prisons to share her faith with the inmates.

Her platform as Miss America was youth violence and bullying. Howard says her message to others who found themselves bullied like herself is they can still overcome and have a successful life.

Other statewide candidates including Gubernatorial Candidate Jeanne Ives, State Treasurer Candidate Jim Dodge, and Secretary of State Candidate Jason Helland also spoke to the crowd along with those running for State Senate, State Representative, and Appellate Judge.
