Large Shed Filled With Machinery Destroyed in Fire in Rural Beckemeyer

Damage Is Estimated at $2-Million

Damage is estimated at more than $2-million in a fire that destroyed a large machine shed filled 'bumper to bumper' with combines, tractors, grain trucks and wagons.

Beckemeyer Fire Department Assistant Chief Nick Baker told the Belleville News Democrat it took three hours to bring the fire off the Stolletown Road just north of new U.S. 50 under control. The large amount of equipment limited access to the building. There were no injuries. The name of the owner of the building was not released.

The flames from the 80 by 60 foot building were visible from the owners home about a half-mile away when the fire was discovered about 10:15 Wednesday night.

Beckemeyer received mutual aide from Carlyle, Breese, Huey-Ferrin-Boulder, Germantown, Bartelso, St. Rose and Wheatfield Fire District firefighters. The Clinton County Sheriff's Department and Emergency Management Agency also assisted at the scene.
