The Centralia Chamber of Commerce welcomed the 618 Sports Academy at 107 East Broadway downtown with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday evening.

The owners are Mike Lambert and Adam Feig of Centralia.

Feig says they hope this is just the start.

"This is a vision that Mike and myself had just to provide a place not only for Centralia youth, but for our own youth. We both got small children that are very much adamant about baseball and softball so we just wanted to put a facility together to live that dream out. So they had something better than we had when we were kids. This has expanded all the way through the youth of Centralia."

Feig says they hope to add the latest software to analyze student swings.

Lambert played baseball for the Orphans, Kaskaskia College Blue Devils and Eastern Illinois University, where he also coached for a year and a half.

"A lot of the things that I learned from my coaches in the past have helped me want to teach the game of baseball to students. And then we also do softball."

The two hope to add golf and soccer training in the future.
