No One Comes Forward With Proposal for Brown Shoe Property
City Manager Continues to Welcome Proposals

Salem City Council at Monday night's meeting.

(SALEM)-The City of Salem will seek out proposals for the vacant Brown Shoe Company property after no one came forward at Monday night's meeting with a development plan.

City Manager Bill Gruen says that is not unusual for a real estate project, noting the city has sought proposals on other ground the city owns without an immediate response.

"If anyone is interested in purchasing the Brown Shoe site we would definitely like to hear about it. If anybody has ideas, that's great, let's talk about it. And then the process would be that if you're interested, provide us a sealed proposal for your project and we will bring that to the City Council at the next scheduled meeting unless there is a reason to have another meeting."

The city gained ownership of the Brown Shoe Company property after incurring the cost to clean up the burned out building after no owners came forward.
