Taxpayers can start filing their state and federal income tax returns on Monday, January 29th.

Illinois Department of Revenue Spokesperson Terry Horstman is reminding everyone that filing electronically is the easiest way to go.

"Filing returns electronically, requesting direct deposit into a checking or savings account is still the fastest, most secure way to receive a refund."

And how long will it take for your state refund to arrive?

"As we continue our fraud prevention measures we anticipate direct deposit refunds will be issued 4 weeks from the time an error free, electronically filed return is submitted. That's the same time frame as last year."

In 2017, 84% of Illinois taxpayers filed their state returns electronically.
