Attorney General Lisa Madigan is calling on utilities in Illinois to cut their rates.

Madigan says the drop in the Federal Corporate Income Tax from 35 to 21 percent under the new tax law should mean lower costs for consumers.

"Utility rates are largely based on actual cost that companies incur when delivering you your utilities. So your natural gas, your electric service, your water service...because of the significant reduction in the Federal Corporate Income Tax Rate, all of our utility bills should be reduced."

Madigan says her office will be working with the Illinois Commerce Commission to get utilities, including Ameren, to cut their rates as soon as possible.
