Marion County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested two Centralia men for burglary with the help of several residents along the Fairydale Road more than a mile from where the incident began.

28-year-old Eric Thompson of South Locust and 25-year-old Nathan Hale of South Hickory were both arrested shortly after going to the same house separately to ask to use the phone. In both cases, as the suspects were using one phone, the resident was calling the sheriff's department on the other. Thompson was arrested as he was getting into a car from a person he apparently called for a ride. When Hale arrived at the home a short time later, deputies arrested him as he was walking nearby.

Deputies say the series of events began when the son of Brady Lewis passed by a vacant home owned by his father on U.S. 51 south of Wisher Road in rural Patoka and noticed a vehicle with a trailer backed up against the home. He confronted the two men as they were apparently attempting to steal a motorcycle. Deputies report the son grabbed the keys from their vehicle and told them the cops would be there in a little bit. He then called 911. The sheriff's department received a call from the female in the car at the scene a short time later reporting the theft of the keys.

When deputies arrived the two men later identified as Thompson and Hale had fled from the scene on foot. The female was still in the car, but was released without being charged because it was unclear if she knew about the alleged plan to steal the motorcycle. Sheriff's Deputies, with assistance from State, Sandoval and Odin Police, tracked the two men about a quarter mile before losing the tracks.

The two then appeared separately at the house on Fairydale Road where they asked to use the phone. The residents called 911 when realizing they matched the description of those being sought.

Deputies say Lewis later confirmed the motorcycle in his vacant house had been moved in an apparent attempt to steal it.

The initial call came in at 3:30 Thursday afternoon.
