The Salem City Council Tuesday night voted to surplus the former Brown Shoe Company property at West Whitaker and South College and seek proposals for reuse of the land.

The city obtained title of the property as a result of cleaning up the sight of the burned out building.

The city will look at any kind of proposal, from business to residential use. City Manager Bill Gruen asked that no one get concerned about the cost of the property, if they had a good idea.

City Clerk Bev Quinn says sealed bids can be received anytime up until February fifth. They will be opened at the six pm city council meeting that day. If no proposal is submitted by February fifth, proposals will be accepted by the city indefinitely thereafter.
