A 23-year-old man has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly fighting with females while armed with a firearm inside Applebee's Restaurant at 105 Potomac in Mt. Vernon late Saturday night. Mt. Vernon Police say Shonn Bacon later fled a vehicle traffic stop on foot. He was contained in the parking lot of the Mt. Vernon Hotel and Event Center at 222 Potomac where he was eventually taken into custody.

Police say Bacon is incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center for alleged aggravated battery in a public place, domestic battery, possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated assault, armed habitual offender, aggravated vehicular hijacking, resisting arrest and a Department of Corrections warrant.

Police report while en-route to Applebee's, the man later identified as Bacon exited the restaurant and entered an occupied vehicle on the parking lot of Arby's restaurant. Bacon allegedly exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot still holding the handgun when police initiated a traffic stop.

Bacon allegedly refused to drop the handgun when police had him contained in the hotel and event center parking lot. After some time, Bacon did drop the handgun but resisted even longer before being taken into custody.

Police say after his arrest, they found Bacon was currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections stemming from a 2015 conviction of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm in Sangamon County. The Illinois Department of Corrections was contacted, and a parole revocation warrant was issued.
