Kinmundy Police have arrested an 18-year-old Salem man for disorderly conduct and criminal defacement of property in connection with a November 28th incident at the Kinmundy Library.

Mathew Whiting of West Warmoth was being sought by Kinmundy Police for questioning after another person questioned had pointed to Whiting as the person who had smeared items onto the outside of the library building.

The arrest came after Whiting had been arrested by Salem Police for retail theft of a bottle of liquor from Salem IGA following a three block long foot chase. Whiting was charged with retail theft and resisting arrest in connection with that incident.

Whiting had been released from jail earlier in the week pending further investigation after he had been arrested by Salem Police for felony theft of a vehicle.

Kinmundy Police had warned after the vandalism if problems continued the availability of wi-fi outside the library at night would be discontinued. Police say several people came forward with information that eventually led to Whiting's arrest.
