Marion County Deer Hunters Bag 489 Deer in Second Shotgun Season

Marion County deer hunters harvested 489 deer during the second shotgun deer hunting weekend that concluded on Sunday.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says that brings the total for the season to 1,570 deer, up 118 from last year.

Statewide, 80,021 deer were taken during the seven day shotgun season, up from 512 from last year.

In Clay County, 352 deer were harvested during the second shotgun season bringing the total for the year to 1,112 deer. That is up 21 from last year.

199 deer were harvested in the second shotgun weekend in Clinton County bringing the total for the season up to 694. That's up 67 from last year.

Fayette County hunters bagged 536 deer, bringing the total for the season to 1,544. That's an increase of 43 deer from last year.

In Jefferson County, 755 deer were taken during the past weekend bringing the total to 2,083 for the year. That's up from 1,878 last year.

In Washington County, 325 deer were taken in the second season, bringing the total for the year to 1,020. That's up 71 from last year.

Wayne County hunters bagged 567 deer during the second season for a total of 1,544 for the season. That was down from 32 last year.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reports the Illinois Muzzle-loader-only season is this weekend, December 8th-10th. The Late-Winter Antler-less-Only Season is from December 28th to 31st and January 12th-14th. The Archery Deer Season Continues through January 14th, 2018.
