Fire Heavily Damages Rural Texico Home

Wood Burning Stove in Basement Is Believed to Be the Source of the Fire

Fire has heavily damaged a home in rural Texico in northern Jefferson County.

Kell Firemen, with mutual aid assistance from Jefferson Rural, Salem, and Bluford, fought the fire at the Phyllis Halfacre home at 23,061 Harmony Lane.

The fire is believed to have started from a wood stove in the basement. The blaze moved up to the ground floor of the home inside the walls. Kell firemen say the fire was difficult to reach and the blaze damaged three of the four upstairs rooms as well as the basement. There was also heavy smoke damage throughout the home.

Halfacre reported the fire and got out safely. Firemen report no injuries in fighting the blaze.

The fire call came in at 10:08 Thursday morning. Firemen were on the scene until 1:22 pm.
