Centralia Grade School District to Use Eclipse As Educational Opportunity

The Centralia Grade School District is planning to utilizing the August 21st eclipse across Southern Illinois as a learning experience.

Superintendent Craig Clark told the school board Tuesday night the administration has devised permission slips for the eclipse viewing. Building specific education plans have been created and the district has purchased NASA approved viewing glasses for all students, faculty and staff.

Clark reported walk-in registration for first through eighth grade students will continue at Centralia Junior High through seven Wednesday night.

Open houses have been set for each building. The Field Kindergarten Center will hold their open house at six pm on August 15th. Open houses will be held at Schiller School at five pm and Jordan School at six pm on August 17th. The Centralia Junior High open house will be at six pm on August 21st. Lincoln open house will be at six pm on August 31st.

The board acted on a number of personnel issues. A letter of retirement was accepted from Cynthia Burge effective at the end of the school year. The resignation of Sarah Schomaker as Social Worker at Centralia Junior High School was accepted. Amy Wademan was transferred to first grade at Schiller School from Field Kindergarten Center.
