Mt. Vernon Teen Killed in Wrong-Way I-57 Crash
Crash Occurred in Southern Jefferson County During Noon Hour on Sunday

State Police have identified the 18-year-old Mt.Vernon woman killed in a Sunday afternoon wrong way head on crash on I-57 near Ina.

She is Emma Caserotti. Caserotti was killed when her southbound Jeep struck a car traveling the wrong direction driven by 25-year-old Cole Stevens of Energy. A passenger in Caserotti's Jeep, 18-year-old Tristen Sharp of Mt. Vernon, received major injuries and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital and later flown to a regional hospital.

Stevens received only minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. A 23-year-old passenger, Octavia Marshall of Carbondale, also received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Preliminary reports from State Police indicate Stevens traveled through the center median and into the southbound lanes where it struck the Jeep head on. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage. Both Caserotti and Sharp had to be cut out of the Jeep by Jefferson Rural Firemen.

The crash closed I-57 southbound from Mt. Vernon for five hours beginning at 12:56 Sunday afternoon.

The investigation continues by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and ISP Zone 7 Investigations. The case is also pending review by the Jefferson County State's Attorney's Office and any subsequent information will be released form their office.
