Investigators look at Norfolk Southern train involved in accident with car Thursday afternoon.

A 38-year-old Centralia woman was injured in a car-train crash at the Norfolk-Southern tracks crossing on the Shattuc Road late Thursday afternoon.

Clinton County Sheriff's Department records indicate Jenny Moore of North Sycamore was driving the car northbound on the Shattuc Road when it was struck by an eastbound Norfolk Southern freight train. The driver was the only one in the car. She was transported by Lifestar Ambulance to Kaskaskia College where she was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of injuries.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Department reports the incident is still under investigation.

While initial reports indicate the driver was ejected from the vehicle, it was not immediately clear if she was actually ejected or may have gotten out of the vehicle on her own.

The Centralia Fire Protection District and Clinton County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency both assisted at the scene. The crossing was closed for several hours after the crash was reported at 5:13 Thursday afternoon.
