Mount Vernon, IL (Feb. 24, 2017) — Crossroads Community Hospital donated over $5,000 worth of medical supplies and medications to help the people of Haiti, which will be delivered by Dr. Bradley Drake of Mt. Vernon Chiropractic Clinic on March 2, 2017.

Dr. Gregory Dalencourt, General Surgeon at Crossroads, is working with Dr. Drake to ensure delivery of the donated supplies to Haiti. Both physicians share a passion for this project. Dr. Drake has traveled to several foreign countries delivering necessary medical supplies to communities in need, while Dr. Dalencourt and his wife are originally from Haiti and have seen first-hand what is needed in the community.

“The people of Haiti are not able to receive the same type of medical care we receive in the United States. When the earthquake hit, it wiped out buildings and infrastructure. They are still rebuilding from that, and then Hurricane Matthew happened last year,” said Dr. Dalencourt.

Haiti has been devastated by deadly natural disasters in recent years. In 2010, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 killed over 40,000 people. In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew left more than 35,000 people homeless and killed 1,300.

“We choose the charities where we feel we can make the most impact. When the opportunity came to help individuals who would otherwise not receive medical care, we wanted to help,” said Finny Mathew, CEO of Crossroads Community Hospital.

Crossroads donates over $20,000 each year to local charities and organizations that provide services to individuals, families, and children.

“Dr. Dalencourt has been instrumental in getting the contacts necessary for this project to happen. I am packing two large, rolling duffle bags to carry the supplies through the airport, customs, and directly to missions to help people,” said Dr. Drake, who is donating the travel expenses.

Haiti has been a passion of Dr. Dalencourt. Three days after the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Dr. Dalencourt and eight doctors planned a trip to Haiti to provide medical relief to earthquake victims. The conditions were incredibly dire. With buildings, utilities, and infrastructure completely gone, the doctors had to rely on their experience to start from scratch. These efforts earned Dr. Dalencourt two awards for medical relief by Peconic Bay Medical Center and Greater New York Hospitals Association.

Dr. Gregory Dalencourt is a general surgeon employed by Crossroads Community Hospital and is trained in minimally-invasive bariatric procedures and robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
