Centralia Fire Protection District Firemen say a controlled leaf fire got away Thursday afternoon and burned about an acre of ground on the Dale Aussieker property at 1815 Lackey Lane.
Fire District officials say Aussieker's stepson Andrew Howell was burning the leaves when the wind caught the fire and carried it into the brush. The fire came close to the Aussieker's home, but firemen stopped the blaze before it caused any damage.
Firemen are asking those burning to use care during the current warm spell. They note the winds can quickly spread a fire out of control. The situation n is made worse by low humidity levels that causes the dead vegetation from last year to burn more quickly.
The fire call came in at 12:45 Thursday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene about an hour.
