The City of Wamac Board appointed retired Centralia Police Officer Steve Prather as their new Police Chief effective immediately. Prather replaces former chief Jason Davis who turned in his resignation at Monday night's meeting. In other police news, the Board approved the purchase of 3 Kenwood Radios and 3 extra batteries.

In other personnel news, the board was given the resignation of city attorney Brian Merrill effective February 28th. Mayor Butch Mathis will be looking for replacements that would then need to be approved by the Board.

The Enterprise Zone that Wamac is in along with Centralia and Central City was approved for another 15 years. The current contract was set to expire at the end of 2017. The Board also increased zoning hearing fees from $25 to $50.

43 letters were sent out by the Zoning Officer for non-compliance to ordinances. Six complied with the letters, another 7 were given extensions and the remaining 30 were issued citations. Remember if you receive a letter from the zoning officer, you can contact him to make arrangements to comply.

The Board also approved the renewal of their health insurance through United Healthcare at a small increase of 6.4% and their deductible was raised from $1500 to $1750.
