Centralia High School Board member and Orphan fan Butch Border is asking the city council to help better promote legendary coach Arthur Trout and Centralia having the winningest basketball team in the country.
Border wants Trout's birthday March 21st to be recognized each year. He'd also like to see the school and city work together on promoting Centralia's basketball tradition that is tops among the 25,000 high schools across the country. Border says he just recently checked and Centralia has 2,210 basketball wins compared to second place Kingsport, Tennessee which has 2,199 victories.
Mayor Tom Ashby likes the idea of honoring the basketball program, but doesn't think there needs to be a joint committee between the city and high school.
"I am willing to support any initiative the high school does, but I think this is something that should be spearheaded by the high school," said Ashby. "It is a high school event. It is not a city event. We join in recognizing them as America's Winningest Team, but I think they should lead the charge on this type of thing."
Ashby said he would issue a resolution making March 21st as Trout Day in Centralia.
