Fire caused moderate to heavy damage to the center downstairs area of a home in the rural Cartter area early Monday night.

Salem Fire Protection District Chief Roger Mann says no one was home when smoke was discovered coming from the Larry Austin and Summer Sanders home at 1621 Adams Road.

"When we got here we had light to medium smoke coming out of the upstairs windows. We located the location of the fire and then we were able to put a hose line on it and pretty much knock it down right there. Then we basically went into overhaul right there. It was in downstairs in what I would call the living room/kitchen area on an interior wall."

Mann says in addition to the fire damage, the rest of the two story home received heavy smoke damage. The State Fire Marshall was called to investigate the cause of the fire, which will go down as undetermined.

Salem received mutual aide assistance from Kell and Odin Firemen.

The fire call came in around 7:30 Monday night.

Firefighters wait for any further action needed after a fire is knocked down at the Larry Austin and Summer Sanders home at 1621 Adams Road in rural Cartter early Monday night.
