Hockey Final Four: U.S. v. Finland; Canada v. Slovakia
2/25/10 @ 6:57:52 am

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Zach Parise provided the U.S. goals and Ryan Miller stopped all 19 shots he faced to blank Switzerland 2-0, sending the Americans into the men's hockey semifinals at the Winter Games.

Swiss goalie Jonas Hiller was almost as spectacular as Miller, blanking the Americans through the first two periods and turning back 42 of 43 shots. Parise ended the double-shutout before adding an empty netter.

The Americans will play Finland in Friday's first semifinal. The Finns blanked the Czech Republic 2-0. Miikka Kiprusoff  got the shutout. Finland won the silver medal four years ago.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Canada joined the Americans in the hockey semifinal. Team Canada jumped on Russian goalie Evgeni Nabokov with four goals in the opening period while peppering the San Jose Sharks goalie with 21 shots in the opening 20 minutes. Ryan Getzlaf, Dan Boyle, Rick Nash and Brenden Morrow all scored in the opening period and Canada routed Russia 7-3,

Canada now plays Slovakia in the semifinal. Slovakia eliminated defending champion Sweden 4-3. Pavol Demitra scored the go-ahead goal.

WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) - Add another injury to Lindsey Vonn's medical chart. An injury report from the chief medical officer of the U.S. Olympic Team says Vonn broke her right pinkie when she crashed during the first run of the Olympic women's giant slalom. She also wound up with a sore left hip and a battered chin following the fall to go along with her deeply bruised right shin. She'll now decide whether to compete in Friday's slalom, her final event of the Winter Games.

Teammate Julia Mancuso is well back of the leaders after the first run, after being forced to restart. The starters at the top of the course didn't realize Vonn was still down when they let Mancuso begin her run.

WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) - Sweden won the men's cross-country skiing relay after Marcus Hellner pulled away on the last leg for his second gold medal of the Olympics.

RICHMOND, British Columbia (AP) - Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic won the women's 5,000-meters speedskating race, her second gold of 2010 Games. Stephanie Beckert of Germany took the silver and Clara Hughes captured the bronze.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - China has won the women's 3,000-meter relay short track speedskating final after four-time defending champion South Korea was disqualified. Canada was awarded silver and the U.S. bronze in the four-team final.

WEST VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Lydia Lassila of Australia won the women's aerials. China finished 2-3.

WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) - Canada's Kaillie Humphries has won gold in Olympic women's bobsled, beating teammate Helen Upperton. Erin Pac of the United States took the bronze. American Shauna Rohbock, who called the speedy track "stupid fast" after a training run last week, finished sixth. The gold was Canada's seventh of the games, putting it in a three-way tie with Germany and the United States.
