COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas, the third-ranked team in The Associated Press football poll, finished a perfect 12-and-0 regular season with a 49-39 win over arch-rival Texas A&M. Colt McCoy completed 24 of 40 passes for 304 yards and four TDs.
The Longhorns have only next weekend's Big 12 championship game against Nebraska standing between them and the BCS title game.
For a while, though, it seemed as though QB Jerrod Johnson would rally the Aggies to a gigantic upset.
Jeff Fuller caught three touchdown passes from Johnson, the last with 7:10 left to cut Texas' lead to 42-39. But Marquise Goodwin returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, and the Longhorns could finally breathe easier.
