Running back Larry Johnson signed to Bengals
11/17/09 @ 4:46:09 pm

The Cincinnati Bengals officially signed running back Larry Johnson on Tuesday.  Johnson was released by the Chiefs last week after a tumultuous tenure in Kansas City.  Prior to his release, Johnson, who was involved in a spate of off-field incidents, received a two-week suspension after posting demeaning comments on his Twitter account toward head coach Todd Haley.  He also used a gay slur in another post before issuing another anti-gay remark the next day.

Johnson, who will turn 30 on Thursday, carried the ball 132 times for 377 yards in seven games with the Chiefs this season.  The Penn State product has racked up 6,015 yards on the ground in 75 career games.  The 7-and-2 Bengals currently sit atop the AFC North.  Running back Cedric Benson currently ranks sixth in the NFL in rushing with 859 yards, but is battling a hip injury that forced him to leave Sunday's win over the Steelers.  Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that Johnson will begin his tenure with the team as a backup and would be an insurance policy.
