NEW YORK - There could be more soggy weather in the Bronx for Game 1 of the World Series tonight.
National Weather Service meteorologist John Murray says there's a 30 percent chance of showers for the opener between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankkes. The gametime temperature is expected to be about 47 degrees.
Cliff Lee, Pedro Martinez and Cole Hamels are the Phillies' scheduled starters for the first three games. The Yankees will go with CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and Andy Pettitte.
Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is pretty confident. He said on the "Jay Leno Show" Monday that, "If we're nice we'll let it go six (games), but I'm thinking five. Close it out at home."
Cubs have new owner:
CHICAGO - The Ricketts family has completed the purchase of the Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field and other assets from the Tribune Co. The new owners say they've taken a 95 percent controlling interest in the baseball franchise, its storied ballpark and 25 percent of Comcast Sportsnet.
The deal is valued at $845 million. Billionaire Joe Ricketts is the founder of Omaha, Neb.-based TD Ameritrade. Forty-Four-year-old Tom Ricketts will serve as board chairman.
Astros hire bench boss:
HOUSTON - Brad Mills is the new manager of the Houston Astros after six seasons as the Boston Red Sox's bench coach under Terry Francona. This is Mills' first job as a big league skipper after 11 seasons of managing in the minors. The job became available when the Astros fired Cecil Cooker on Sept. 21.
