Officials with the Illinois Department of Insurance says now is the time for seniors to review their prescription drug plan.

Enrollment for Medicare Part D prescription coverage is open through the end of December…so it's a good idea to see if any changes need to be made. Department of Insurance Director Michael McRaith says it's a daunting task…but has this advice:

"Seniors should evaluate whether the prescriptions they take on a daily or weekly basis, whether those prescriptions are included in the Medicare Part D plan's list of drugs.  Seniors should insure that the preferred pharmacy where they buy their prescriptions are on the plan's list of approved pharmacies," McRaith advised.

Other questions to consider are whether premiums and copays are affordable. And even if you are already enrolled…the plan could change from year to year so it should still be reviewed annually. Everyone with Medicare is eligible for the prescription drug coverage…regardless of income.
