Two Face Charges After Stealing Cell Phone and Soliciting Money, Food
11/24/09 @ 4:04:18 pm

Two men face charges after allegedly stealing a cell phone from a Salem man and soliciting money and food from the victim's contacts.

18-year-old Matthew Juds of South Jefferson in Kinmundy had bond set at five-thousand dollars for theft of the cell phone, three counts of theft by deception, and one count of attempted theft by deception.  22-year-old Jason Moroney of Airport Road in Salem had bond set at 25-hundred dollars after being charged in one of the thefts by deception and the attempted theft.  The two were arrested following a sting set up by Salem Police.  State's Attorney Matt Wilzbach says Juds and Moroney were taken into custody when picking up money left by one of the persons who had received a text asking for help.  That person had contacted police because they knew the victim's phone had been stolen.  Wilzbach said the two had received small amounts of cash and food at least one time through the scam.

Police believe Juds had stolen the phone when visiting the victim's home.
