Centralia Police Looking for Shooter in Party Liquors Incident
11/17/09 @ 1:51:23 pm

Shooting Suspect John Barnes
Centralia Police are looking for 33-year-old John Barnes of Centralia in connection with the Saturday night shooting of 37-year-old Gary Kodat of rural Bone Gap.

Police say when Barnes is located he will be charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.  The shooting that occurred outside Party Liquors on North Elm is believed to have been the result of a drug deal gone bad.  Barnes was supposed to turn himself in Monday, but failed to do so.  Kodat was struck three times in the leg but four shots fired from a small caliber automatic.  He was initially taken to St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia and then transferred to St. Louis University Hospital.  The gun has not been recovered.

Those with information about Barnes' whereabouts are asked to contact the Centralia Police Detectives at 533-76-08 or Marion County Crimestoppers at 1-800-499-UTEL or 1-800-499-88-35.
