The cleanup wrapped up Tuesday where two semi trucks collided on Interstate 57 three miles south of Farina Monday afternoon.
State Police say 45-year-old Wayne Lamp of Guntersville, Alabama ran onto the shoulder of the highway and struck a parked truck driven by 24-year-old Moustapha Fofana of Memphis, Tennessee. The impact split open the fuel tank on Lamp's truck, setting the cab on fire. The trailer on the Fofana truck split open, dumping sticks of butter all over the interstate. Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says both drivers were out of their trucks before the fire department arrived. He reports firemen kept the fire from burning all the lumber on Lamp's truck.
The lengthy cleanup was from the spilled butter. The northbound lanes of the interstate were completely closed for an hour after the crash. Only one lane has been open during the cleanup. Day says Lamp indicated he ran off the road after spilling his coffee. Fofana was initially taken to Salem Township Hospital and then transferred to St. Louis, while Lamp was taken to Carle Hospital in Champaign. Both reportedly received major injuries.
