The field is now set in Marion County Elections for next year. No additional candidates filed for county-wide offices during the final day of filing Monday.
That leaves a Democratic primary for sheriff between incumbent Jerry Devore and challengers Leon Duis and Jane Middleton. Three republicans will face off to become the party's nominee for county clerk. They are Steve Fox of Kinmundy, Kim Gossett of Centralia and Richard Gregg of Salem. Incumbent County Treasurer Patti Hahn faces no opposition in either the primary or general election.
There will be several contested races for Marion County Board. Three democrats, incumbent Pam Hawkins of Alma, along with Roger JOnes of Alma and Dick Hanks of Omega, are seeking the two open seats in District one. Democrat Earl White filed petitions Monday to retain his seat. Republican Michael Ice will challenge him in the November election. Democrats Terry Johnston and Greg Smith are unopposed in seeking reelection in District Three. Democrat Delores Wanzo did decide to seek reelection in District Four.
Two other Democrats will also vie for the two open seats. They are Gary Joe Sanders and William Cress of Centralia. In District five, Ty Bates is unopposed in his reelection effort.
