Several more contested races have developed in next year's election. 

 

Three candidates have now filed to run for county clerk on the Republican ticket.  Steve Fox of Kinmundy, who filed earlier, will face off with Kim Gosett of Centralia and Richard Gregg of Salem in the February primary.  Incumbent Steve Bailey so far does not face any primary challenge.  No additional candidates have filed for sheriff as of Friday, with incumbent Jerry Devore facing Leon Duis and Jane Middleton in the February Democratic Primary.  Incumbent Democratic County Treasurer Patti Hahn so far faces no opposition. 

 

A Democrat has filed to run against Republican incumbent State Representative John Cavaletto of Salem.  He's Joshua Qualls of East Noleman Street in Centralia.  Republican Congressman John Shimkus so far remains unchallenged in his race for reelection in the 19th District.

 

There is also now a Republican candidate to replace retired Marion County Circuit Court Judge David Sauer.  Centralia City Attorney Mark Stedlin has filed to run.  Four Democrats are currently set to compete in the February primary to replace Sauer.  They are Keith Kessler, Mike Reed, Matthew Wilzbach and Eddie Veltman.  Three candidates have now filed to replace Judge Coady in a Circuit Wide election.  They are Democrats Stewart Freeman of Breese and Stephen Friedel of Vandalia and Republican Douglas Jarman of Hillsboro.  So far Democrat Associate Judge Michael McHaney of Salem is unoppossed to replace Judge Kathleen Moran and Democrat Associate Judge Dennis Middendorff so far is the only candidate to replace retiring Clinton County Resident Circuit Court Judge Patrick Hitpas.  

 

So far, Democrat incumbent Kari Garrett is the only candidate for Clinton, Marion and Washington County Regional Superintendent of Schools. 

 

The deadline for candidates to file for statewide and multi-county elections is also at five Monday afternoon.
