St. Mary's-Good Samaritan Holds Desert Gala for 100th Anniversary
6/6/09 @ 11:40:22 pm

The judges and two of the winners in the St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Desert Contest on Friday. Left to right are judges LuAnn Droege of the Centralia Morning Sentinel and Centralia Mayor Becky Ault, cake division winner Linda Webster, cheesecake division winner Debbie Dorries, and WJBD's Bruce Kropp, who was honored to get the tasty job of being one of the judges. It was a hard job!!!

St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.  One of the special events brought back from the past was the Desert Gala.  Nearly 60 employees entered the contest.  The three first place winners included Linda Webster of the Laboratory in the cakes division, Debbie Dorries of the finance office in the cookies catagory, and Pat Willis of the obstetrics department who won in the cheese cake division.  The choice was a hard one for the judges to make.

A lot of meticulous work went into this chocolate-strawberry case. The chocolate strips on the side are woven and the hospital's 100th anniversary is also prominently mentioned in this winning entry from Linda Webster who works in the hospital lab. WJBDradio.com photo by Bruce Kropp.
