  • Geraldine Renee “Gerry” Kimmel, age 73, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 9:53 A.M. on Friday, February 2, 2018, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. Gerry was born into and baptized in the Catholic faith. She was later a member of the First Baptist Church in Centralia, Illinois, where she was baptized into the Baptist faith. She was a crafty lady, who made lovely centerpieces and amended jewelry and shoes. She was an avid yard sale attendee and enjoyed her lottery scratch-off tickets. She enjoyed watching her television shows, including Wheel of Fortune and The Golden Girls. Gerry was an animal lover to the end of her earthly life. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her two granddaughters. She always looked forward to family gatherings, cook-outs, and parties. She was known as a surrogate mom to many people and was a mother and grandmother to many children in her community.

  • Evelyn Seats, age 87, of Sandoval, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at SSM Health St. Mary's hospital. Evelyn went to cosmetology school and became a Beautician. She enjoyed gardening and home decorating. She had a passion for painting with oils, water colors and acrylics. She was well known for her murals, in which some of her work is displayed in the Methodist Church in Sandoval and Goose Creek Oil Company. Her art work was featured in art shows in Columbus, Ohio, Sandoval and Centralia. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

  • Bernice Eileen Breeze, 97, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 3:05 P.M. February 6, 2018 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon after undergoing surgery. Bernice was a faithful member of New Hope “Webb” Baptist Church. In her early married life, she worked at Tri-County Electric and then later at the Mammoth Department Store. She volunteered for many years as a 4-H leader and at Nice Twice Resale. Bernice was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

  • Malcolm Patrick Hunt, 81, of Hammond, Indiana, formerly of Bluford, Illinois passed away at February 4, 2018 at his son's residence in Le High Acres, Florida. Malcolm attended several one room schools; Farrington, Lone Oak, and Ebenezer all in Jefferson County, and Longfellow in Peoria. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and later obtained a Master’s Degree from Indiana University. He taught Junior High School Social Studies in Calumet City, Illinois and later worked as an Independent Truck Driver for 35 years. He also worked in the real estate business. After suffering a stroke in 2017 he resided in his son’s home under hospice care until his death. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

  • Darrell Eugene Lusch Jr., 59, of Centralia, IL passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his home. Darrell was a devoted family man who valued the opportunity memories could be made with his family. He loved to interact online with his family and friends to keep in touch. He also enjoyed playing computer games, especially Canasta. He received great enjoyment while fishing for the "big one" and loved to cook for family and friends. He was also an amazing pool player and played on multiple teams over the years. Darrell will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.   • Dana Nelson, 68, of Centralia, IL passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Bryan Manor in Centralia, IL. Dana was really a stand up kind of guy. He was always polite and cordial to everyone. Everybody liked him, it was impossible to NOT like Dana. He had a good sense of humor and liked to joke around. He was of the Protestant faith, and attended the First Christian Church in Centralia for years. He was really well-liked by the church members as well. He liked to watch television, particularly professional wrestling, John Cena was his favorite. He also enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball, playing his guitar, listening to and dancing to music, attending parties, exercising to videos and on the stationary bike, going to the park, attending church, and playing Bingo. Dana liked any opportunity to go out in the community and eat at a restaurant, shop, or go to the recreation center. He enjoyed celebrating his birthday and the major holidays and going to seasonal activities/events. Dana participated in the Special Olympics when he had the opportunity. He was also an active member of Resident Council meetings. Dana truly seemed to enjoy life and derived a lot of joy from participating in almost any activity offered to him.
