Verlander Flirts with No-Hitter as Tigers Roll Over Rangers
(DETROIT) -- Justin Verlander came within just seven outs of his third-career no-hitter.
Verlander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning while allowing just one hit and three walks as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Texas Rangers 5-0 on Sunday.
He left the game with a tight right quad muscle after giving up the hit to Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland.
"It was just kind of starting to get tight," Verlander said. "There's really no need to push it."
Torii Hunter, Jhonny Peralta, and Victor Martinez each hit solo home runs to provide their ace with some offense.
Verlander improved to 10-6 on the season as the Tigers rolled into the All-Star break sitting atop the AL Central.
