Toronto Raptors Release Center Marcus Camby

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(TORONTO) -- The Toronto Raptors have agreed to buy out the remainder of Marcus Camby’s contract and have placed the veteran center on waivers, the club announced on Wednesday.

The Raptors acquired the 39-year-old Camby in a deal with the New York Knicks last week, in which they sent forward Andrea Bargnani to the Big Apple. In 24 games with the Knicks last season, Camby averaged 1.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

The former NBA defensive player of the year was originally selected by the Raptors out of UMass with the second overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft. In 973 career games, Camby has averaged 9.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
