Tomas Holmstrom Officially Calls It a Career

(DETROIT) -- Detroit Red Wings winger Tomas Holmstrom officially called it a career Tuesday.
"After 15 seasons, four Stanley Cups, Olympic championships, Swedish championship, and millions of memories, I'm here today to announce my retirement from the Detroit Red Wings," Holmstrom said at a news conference. "It wasn't an easy decision to make, but it's the right one."
The 40-year-old Holmstrom joined the Wings in 1996, scoring 243 goals and racking up 287 assists in 1,026 career regular season games. He also had 46 goals and 51 assists in 180 postseason games.
"It's been a long career," he said. "I could maybe play one more year, play 48 games, but I want to do something else, too. I'm going to play tennis. I'm going to do so much other stuff."
Holmstrom joins Niklas Lidstrom as the second longtime Red Wings player in the past year to call it a career.
