Tim Tebow Voted Most Influential Sports Athlete
(NEW YORK) -- Despite being released by the New York Jets last week, quarterback Tim Tebow is the most influential athlete in sports in 2013, according to Forbes.com survey.
The survey reported that 29 percent of the respondents found Tebow to be "influential." Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps finished second in the survey, with 25 percent.
Tebow did not make one start after coming over from Denver last season and failed to throw a touchdown pass when given the opportunity.
In 12 games with the Jets, Tebow completed 6 of 8 passes for 39 passing yards, while on the ground he rushed for 102 yards on 32 carries.
"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," Jets head coach Rex Ryan said in a statement released by the team following his release. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way he all had hoped.
"Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."
Gold medalist Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt finished in third. New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who continues to recover from an ankle injury, finished in fourth, with 22 percent.
