Rory McIlroy Prepares To Defend Honda Classic Title
(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) -- The Honda Classic will tee off on Thursday at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Rory McIlroy comes into the tournament as the defending champion, having beat Tiger Woods and Tom Gillis in last year’s event by two strokes. The victory propelled McIlroy to the top of the World Golf Rankings.
“It’s always nice to come back and defend the title,” McIlroy said. “This is the first tournament I won last year and it’s the tournament that first got me to number one in the world, so obviously nice memories.”
Last Thursday McIlroy and Woods were bounced from the opening round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. On Sunday, the pair decided to play 36 holes of golf at Woods' home course in Hobe Sound, Florida.
