(NEW YORK) -- With spring training on the horizon, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels says his shoulder is fine and will be ready to go this season on-time.

Earlier in the month, Phillies' general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. confirmed that Hamels was experiencing some shoulder soreness while throwing back in October. He was briefly shut down, but is now back to throwing on normal program.

Hamels did admit to some soreness, but denied it would be a lingering issue.

"I did," he told reporters at the 109th annual Philadelphia Sports Writers Association awards dinner. "And I think that's kind of the only case. And I thing it's just kind of the typical wear and tear that you kind of just get. But that was during the season. That was kind of where everything is. Once the season ended, it was kind of nice the season ended."

The Phillies are proceeding with extreme caution with Hamels for good reason. During last season, Hamels signed a six-year extension worth $144 million, the largest in Philadelphia sports history.
