Max Scherzer Improves to 11-0, Tigers Rout Red Sox

Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(DETROIT) -- Max Scherzer is on a roll.  Scherzer improved to an MLB-best 11-0 on Saturday night after the Detroit Tigers pounded the Boston Red Sox (45-32), 10-3.

Scherzer allowed two runs in the first inning and settled down after, finishing with six strikeouts in seven innings of work and gave up six hits, one a homer in the first.

"It's nice to start a season 11-0. It just means we're playing great team baseball and I'm going out there and doing my job," Scherzer said. "I'm credited a ton of run support. That's when you've got to give all the credit to your teammates. Every time I feel like I go deep into a game, they're going to pick me up. They have the whole entire season."

Roger Clemens started the 1997 season 14-0 before losing a game, but Scherzer doesn't want to take all the credit for his dominant first half.

"I realize that it takes so many other teammates to put me in that position," Scherzer said. "This is a credit to the Detroit Tigers, for me being in this position. I know I've pitched well, and I know I've given my team a chance to win, but it doesn't always go that way."

The Tigers improved to 41-32 with the win and are now 25-13 at home.
