(NEW YORK) -- With just 36 games left in their season, if the Los Angeles Lakers want to make a run to reach the playoffs, they don't have much time to right the ship. For now, general manager Mitch Kupchak says the team will make no trades, including center Dwight Howard.

Already having gone through a coaching change and numerous injuries, Kupchak says the team has gone through enough changes already.

"We will not make a trade. We will not trade Dwight Howard," Howard told Newsday. "We have no intention of making a trade. It's unlikely that we'll make any trade with any of our principal players. To make another change at this time of the year being behind the eight-ball like we are, I think that would just make it more difficult. The talent is here. We have to find out way."

The Lakers have been hampered with injuries to Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill, and Howard during the course of the season.

Currently, the Lakers are 3 1/2 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
