Johnny Manziel Defends His Character at SEC Media Day

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(HOOVER, Ala.) -- At SEC Media Day, Heisman Trophy winner and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel set the record straight as to why he was asked to leave the Manning Passing Academy.

It was reported by some that Manziel was asked to leave a day early because of partying, and was too hungover to make some of the meetings. Manziel felt the need to set the record straight.

"There's a lot of rumors out there, a lot of talk," Manziel said. "I've been very eager to get a chance to share my side of the story. I missed a meeting. It wasn't anything due to the night prior. ...It was just simply my phone died, I overslept, I woke up the next morning whenever I did, went and talked to them and it was kind of a mutual decision to get home and get some time to relax."

Manziel has been criticised in the past over concerns over his maturity and character. Still just 20-years-old, Manziel feels that he isn't doing anything wrong.

"I'm still going to live my life to the fullest," Manziel said.

Last season, Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy after scoring 47 total touchdowns and accumulated for 5,116 total yards.
